HOW TO NAVIGATE DIFFERENCES DURING THE HOLIDAYS

This is a question asked more often these days, and it’s especially necessary as we look to gather this holiday season with perhaps others who share their differences in their every word. My intention in sharing these tips is to help us all connect with loved ones, celebrate blessings and honor the beauty in those around us. Here are 3 tips on how to navigate the differences during the holidays :

  1. Keep the focus on love: Maintain love in your heart, and focus on this vibe during gatherings. Often, we can change the world by sharing love, diversityand grace in the presence of others who lack this clarity. Love is contagious and it feels good to come from a place of harmony. Your energy has the power to change the vibe of a room or a conversation, even if it’s not apparent at that moment. Maintain the love in your spirit and allow it to trickle and embrace others around you who may need it most.

  2. Direct conversation into commonalities: Pivot conversations, topics and conversations into the items that unite and bring together. When we focus on what makes us similar, the differences can dissolve and the bond of humanity can inspire connectivity and love may flourish.

  3. Don’t allow yourself to be taken into an emotional storm of differences: This is the biggest challenge as triggers or a sequence of triggers can set off an imbalance of chaos, disruption, and take us off our peaceful path. When I am about to walk into a space that I know may be filled with turbulent energy, I prepare myself through meditation. I also do a practice of envisioning a clear, protective bubble that surrounds me, which captures negativity and bad vibes. I don’t allow the energies of others to impact my happiness, but this is a conscious decision and intentional in preparations. Take the time to prepare and ensure your energy doesn’t falter with the differences shared by others.

A few other tips : limit time with those who bring down your energy, be sure to surround yourself with those who do lift you up and support your highest version of yourself, and be sure to spend time recharging and cleansing from moments that were tiring and/or draining. Take a walk outdoors, call up one of your besties, and be conscious of the vibes you give off and also the kindness you share to yourself.

The holidays are a great time to focus on love and blessings. I wish you a peaceful, loving, and prosperous holiday season.
